If you feel self-conscious about the shape, color, size, or overall appearance of your smile, our dentist—Dr. Alex Balaban—may suggest dental crowns. Dental crowns can improve and restore your smile, and with advancements in dental technology, crowns look more natural than ever before.

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a small cap placed over a tooth to improve the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and overall appearance. Dental crowns can be used cosmetically, or to protect a tooth after a root canal or other dental procedure or injury has threatened the structure of the tooth.

How Dental Crowns are Fabricated

Dental crowns can be fabricated from stainless steel, metal, porcelain fused to metal, resin, ceramic, and porcelain. Most offices now use ceramic and porcelain, as they are durable, inexpensive, and look natural. Our dentist will take digital images using a hand-held scanner to ensure the dental crown fits comfortably, looks natural, and doesn’t stand out from your surrounding natural teeth. Dental crowns are manufactured on-site using CEREC, which takes about an hour. Dr. Balaban will then fit the crown in your mouth that same day, so you can leave our office with a newly restored smile.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Crowns?

You may be a good candidate for a dental crown if your tooth or smile has been affected by tooth decay, injury, illness, or other damage. Dental crowns can restore teeth that are broken, chipped, cracked, weak, misshapen, severely discolored, small or insubstantial, or otherwise damaged. If you want to preserve your remaining natural tooth and avoid a tooth extraction, our dentist may recommend a dental crown.

Benefits of Dental Crowns for Smile Restoration

Dental crowns can last 15 years or more with the proper care, and they look much more natural these days due to advancements in dental technology. Dental crowns can restore your smile that same day, so that you don’t have to undergo multiple procedures, make repeat visits to the dentist, and wait weeks for your restoration to be complete. Dental crowns are comfortable, virtually undetectable, and easy to care for.
